This modernization initiative for a Fortune 500 Company’s Headquarters in St. Paul transformed a campus of a 15-story tower and three low-rise buildings from the 1960s and 1970s. aha's master plan introduced the "Communication Loop," integrating areas for communication and collaboration into the existing structure to encourage informal interaction and departmental synergy.
This plan focused on utilizing transitional areas of the campus, previously underused, as collaborative spaces. These new areas, juxtaposed with traditional office spaces, were designed to facilitate spontaneous discussions and idea sharing. The project, completed in April 2013, represented a shift in workspace design, balancing traditional office needs with contemporary collaboration demands. The involvement of various collaborators, including architects, graphics, lighting, landscape, and MEP specialists, contributed to the project's multifaceted approach.
